IPM Welcomes New Chief Operating Officer and Chief Human Resources Officer

COO Mike Goldrich and CHRO Kathleen T. Ross will lead efforts to accelerate the development and availability of safe and effective microbicides by strengthening IPM’s organisational capacity

SILVER SPRING, Md. (August 31, 2009) –The International Partnership for Microbicides (IPM) is pleased to announce two important additions to its strategic team: Mike Goldrich as Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Kathleen T. Ross as Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO).

Mr. Goldrich, former Executive Vice President and COO at the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI), is responsible for providing strategic guidance to the IPM senior leadership team, and working collaboratively to manage operations across the organisation and within IPM’s global partner networks.

Ms. Ross, former Executive Vice President and CHRO at Arbitron, leads IPM’s talent and organisational strategies, including staffing, retention and employee development; compensation, benefits and employee relations; and management, leadership and organisation development.

“Achieving IPM’s mission to develop and ensure access to safe and effective microbicides — and to support broader HIV prevention goals — hinges on the strength of our organisational capacity and leadership team,” Dr. Zeda Rosenberg, Chief Executive Officer of IPM, said. “The expertise Mike and Kathleen bring will ensure that strategic growth within the organisation is skillfully carried out.”

Mr. Goldrich comes to IPM with 40 years’ experience managing research institutions and scientific and clinical programs in government, academia, corporate and nonprofit sectors. At IAVI, Mr. Goldrich successfully led efforts to strengthen the organisation’s operational structure, which encompasses five offices operating in 22 countries. Before IAVI, Mr. Goldrich served as the Vice President for research operations at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center at Harvard Medical School in Boston. He was previously the founding COO for the Institute of Human Virology at the University of Maryland, which followed a 25-year career at the National Institutes of Health. Mr. Goldrich earned his M.B.A in finance from Loyola University. He serves on the Board of Directors for Medical Care Development, which is a global health care delivery organization, and as a consultant in academia and industry.

“As a long-time member of the global health community, I applaud IPM’s efforts and successes in microbicide development and its contributions to HIV prevention,” Goldrich said. “I look forward to being an integral part of IPM’s future as we scale-up our preparations for a Phase III trial in 2011, and other new initiatives in achieving our mission.”

Ms. Ross has extensive experience leading the human resources function in both corporate and nonprofit organisations. At Arbitron, Ms. Ross assisted the Board of Directors, CEO and executive staff in developing and executing the company’s strategic plan. Prior to joining Arbitron, Ms. Ross served as the Vice President for Organisational Development and Corporate Communication at Chevy Chase FSB, where she led the company’s efforts to design and implement organisational structures and talent strategies to support rapid expansion. Ms. Ross is currently Chair of the Board for the Human Resource Planning Society. She holds a PhD in organisational behavior and development from the School of Business and Public Management of The George Washington University, where she serves as adjunct faculty; and an MS in Human Resource Management from the American University Kogod School of Business.

“As IPM continues to grow and build up its capacity to carry out its mission, and continues its efforts as good stewards of its generous funding, it is crucial that thoughtful, strategic capacity building is carried out,” Ross said. “I am thrilled to be a part of such a novel and socially responsible organisation.”
