IPM Mourns Professor Gita Ramjee

April 1, 2020—With profound sadness, IPM mourns the loss of Professor Gita Ramjee, a pioneering researcher determined to find new methods for women to prevent HIV, and a compassionate friend and colleague who dedicated her life to improving the well-being of women in South Africa and beyond.

IPM had the honor to work with Prof. Ramjee when she led HIV prevention research at the South African Medical Research Council. As a key partner in clinical trials of promising microbicides for women, she inspired many with her steadfast passion for women’s sexual and reproductive health and rights.

Prof. Ramjee’s important contributions to HIV prevention research for women will have a lasting impact as will her contributions to the lives of the many people with whom she collaborated and mentored. We will miss her deeply, and send our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends and colleagues.
