2018 ANNUAL REPORT

SRH conversations by and for women

Woman-centered health care can only be effective if women are part of the process. To support them to stay informed and engaged, IPM launched Inside My Purse, a blog for and by young women in Africa to discuss topics of sexual and reproductive health and well-being in a non-judgmental environment. The blog welcomed 18 contributors from four countries during the year, and participated in the flagship SheDecides opening event in Pretoria, South Africa, in March and the 22nd International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2018) in Amsterdam in July.

Input from women and other stakeholders is also critical to ensuring the dapivirine ring’s market introduction, should it be approved. Last year, IPM’s outreach included:

  • Meeting with advocacy partners to discuss how the ring could fit the HIV prevention landscape in target countries
  • Holding nearly 40 outreach events in the Phase III trial countries with adolescent girls and young women, male partners of ring trial participants and broader ring trial communities
  • Sharing ring updates and engaging in dialogues with advocates, researchers and community members attending events in the AIDS 2018 Research Literacy Networking Zone and HIV Prevention Marketplace
  • Co-hosting a satellite session with OPTIONS at the 2018 HIV Research for Prevention Conference in Madrid on next steps for the ring, including opportunities and challenges for its rollout

IPM is committed to continuing these conversations over the coming years.
