Protocol Title: A Two-Part, Cross-Sectional and Prospective, Observational Study to Estimate HIV Incidence among Sexually Active, Adult Females

Description
IPM 100.1 is a cross-sectional and prospective cohort study aimed at estimating HIV incidence (rate of new infections) among sexually active women, ages 18 to 40, with two primary objectives:
- determine HIV incidence in preparation for future HIV microbicide efficacy trials
- detect acute HIV infection in study participants
IPM 100.1 is being conducted in Kenya and Zimbabwe, and will include approximately 800 participants in the cross-sectional component. Additionally, 300 of these participants who are HIV negative will be enrolled into a prospective cohort study for a 12-month follow-up period with HIV infection as the primary endpoint.
