Willem Kriel, MSc

Mr. Kriel oversees IPM’s team in South Africa and plays a critical role in IPM’s overall organizational strategy, with responsibility for the full range of IPM’s clinical activities, including strategic leadership of clinical operations, pharmacovigilance, clinical product development, and stakeholder and community engagement. 

Prior to joining IPM, Mr. Kriel led clinical research at global pharmaceutical companies and contract research organisations for more than 20 years. He has served as chief scientific officer and oversaw medical affairs and the International Clinical Research Operations division at Novartis; managed Bristol Myers-Squibb’s clinical research in South Africa; directed business development at PAREXEL International; and managed Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research and Development (J&JPRD)’s operations in South Africa. In these roles, he was involved in the entire product development cycle, from early-phase clinical studies to market access initiatives.

Mr. Kriel holds a degree with honors in industrial psychology from the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa and an MSc in pharmaceutical medicines from Hibernia College in Dublin.
