Tlaleng Mofokeng, MBChB

Dr. Mofokeng is the United Nations special rapporteur on the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health. She is also a practicing medical doctor at DISA Clinic in Johannesburg, with expertise advocating for universal health access, democratization of global health and anti-criminalization in sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).

Known widely as “Dr. T”, she is an expert on SRHR and the author of the bestselling book, Dr T: A Guide to Sexual Health and Pleasure. Dr T is the chair of the board of Soul City Institute and was previously Commissioner of South Africa’s Commission for Gender Equality and advisor to the United Nations University-International Institute for Global Health’s gender and health policy hub.

Dr. T hosts and associate-produces “Sex Talk with Dr T”, a television show focused on sexual health, and serves as an Extraordinary Senior Lecturer in gender, culture and HIV at the Africa Centre for HIV/AIDS Management at Stellenbosch University. 

She has received numerous honors, including the “120under40” award for leaders in family planning by the Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health in 2016. She was named one of 200 young South Africans by Mail & Guardian in 2016 and the most influential South African by Avance Media in 2017 and 2018.

Dr. T received her medical degree (MBChB) from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa.
