Mark Mitchnick, MD

Dr. Mitchnick is the CEO of MindSciences, which creates digital therapeutics aimed at using mindfulness techniques to improve health and well-being. He served as IPM’s chief scientific officer from 2002 to 2006, where he was responsible for scientific program direction and led our licensing negotiations for IPM compounds, including dapivirine.

A drug development expert, Dr. Mitchnick is the founder and former CEO of Particle Sciences, where he led a portfolio of nanodelivery, drug-eluting devices and complex formulation technologies, and oversaw the development and clinical material production of 12 different vaginal rings. He is also the personal and health care global business development advisor for Particle Sciences’ parent corporation, Lubrizol.    

Prior to Particle Sciences, Dr. Mitchnick founded sunSmart, Inc., a company based on his patents for nanoparticulate zinc oxide for use in sunscreens. He holds approximately 30 issued and pending patents related to large molecules, vaccines, antibody drug conjugates, drug delivery, surface chemistry, diagnostics and medical devices. Dr. Mitchnick also serves as president of Simple Works, a foundation focused on child health, wellness and education.  

A pediatrician and acupuncturist, he received his bachelor’s degree in animal sciences from Purdue University and his MD from Georgetown University Medical School. He completed his residency in pediatrics at The New York Hospital, Cornell University Medical Center and has practiced medicine in the US as well as in several developing countries.
