Daniel Were, PhD, MA

Dr. Were is the director of the Bridge to Scale project to scale up oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in Kenya. Led by Jhiego and funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the project is documenting and developing a model to address supply, demand, and service delivery issues, and engaging stakeholders throughout the process to ensure product introduction is at scale once the project ends.

Most recently, he served as PATH’s adolescent health advisor in Kenya. Before that, he served as senior HIV prevention team leader for APHIAplus KAMILI, a 5-year USAID-funded integrated health service delivery project. He was previously the technical advisor for the ROADS to a Healthy Future project to increase utilization of HIV prevention, care and treatment services among key and vulnerable populations in nine eastern and central African countries.

Dr. Were holds a doctoral degree in health communication from Moi University, and both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in education from Kenyatta University.
