Advancing HIV prevention options: Women who want to prevent HIV and unintended pregnancy

Women in areas with high HIV rates often also have high unmet need for modern contraceptive methods, and complications from unintended pregnancy are one of the top contributors to maternal mortality.

The condom is currently the only product available that provides simultaneous HIV prevention and contraception. However, women are often unable to negotiate condom use. Many women have expressed considerable interest in a long-acting dual-prevention option.

To meet this need, IPM is developing a three-month dapivirine-contraceptive ring that is now in Phase I safety trials. Learn more about this promising multipurpose prevention technology.
