Jim A. Turpin, PhD
Dr. Turpin is a program officer and branch chief of the Preclinical Microbicides and Prevention Research Branch in the Prevention Sciences Program, Division of AIDS, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), National Institutes of Health (NIH). He oversees and manages the non-vaccine biomedical prevention preclinical program, which focuses on advancing promising products including topical microbicides, pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and multipurpose prevention technologies (MPTs).
Dr. Turpin is the program officer and primary contact for the Integrated Preclinical/Clinical Program for HIV Topical Microbicides, the Microbicide (R21/R33) Innovation Program, the Prevention Innovation Program, and the Mucosal Environment and HIV Prevention Program. He also supports the Comprehensive Resources for HIV Topical Microbicide and Biomedical Prevention contract, which provides gap-filling resources for topical microbicide and prevention development and supports Best Practices Working Groups that assess critical processes and information to help advance products to clinical studies.
