Protocol Title: A Cross-Sectional and Prospective, Observational, Cohort Study to Estimate HIV Incidence among Sexually Active Adult Females
Status: Study report in progress
Description
IPM 100 is a cross-sectional and prospective cohort study to estimate the HIV incidence among sexually active women, ages 18 to 35 years, in five sites across South Africa. As part of the cross-sectional component of the study, approximately 800 women at each site were tested for HIV once, with pre- and post-test counseling. Among them, the 300 women who tested HIV-negative at each site were enrolled into a 12-month prospective cohort study, with regular (quarterly) HIV testing and counseling.
HIV incidence was calculated from cross-sectional data as well as data collected from the prospective cohort with HIV as the primary endpoint for the study.
