Protocol Title: A Long-Term Observational Cohort Study of HIV Infection in Participants Who Seroconvert after Enrolment in Microbicide Trials

Status: Planned 2012

Description

IPM 007A is an observational, prospective cohort study evaluating the disease progression and virologic evolution in participants who become HIV infected after enrollment in IPM microbicide trials. Along with IPM 007B, this study is specifically designed to identify HIV drug-resistant mutations immediately following seroconversion in plasma and vaginal secretions and changes in resistant mutations over time in participants previously exposed to an ARV-based microbicide or a placebo.

The study will enroll HIV-positive women who seroconverted during participation in a microbicide clinical trial, and each participant will be followed for 24 months or until antiretroviral treatment is initiated.
