Microbicide Research, A Promising Prevention Strategy For HIV/AIDS: Can It Save Women’s Lives?
This event, held on July 18, 2006 in Washington, DC, and sponsored by the Alliance for Microbicide Development, Global Campaign for Microbicides, International Partnership for Microbicides and Women's Policy, Inc., addressed the status of microbicide research and its importance as an HIV/AIDS prevention strategy for women. The panel summarized the status of global microbicide development efforts and discussed "on-the-ground" issues related to microbicide clinical trials. Speakers included U.S. Senator Barack Obama (D-Ill.), U.S. Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.), IPM CEO Dr. Zeda Rosenberg and Dr. Salim S. Abdool Karim, vice chancellor of research at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and director of the Centre for the AIDS Programme of Research in South Africa.

IPM CEO on CNN’s “The End of AIDS: A Global Summit with Bill Clinton”
Dr. Zeda Rosenberg, IPM’s CEO, participated as a speaker on a new hour-long television program featured on CNN and CNN International. The show, which premiered worldwide on April 29, was timed to mark the 25th anniversary of the emergence of AIDS. The discussion was moderated by CNN medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta with former U.S. President Bill Clinton and some of the world’s leading HIV and AIDS experts and activists exploring how to defeat this epidemic.
